PACKRAT Founders Membership Explained: How It Works & Is It Worth It?
An honest walkthrough of the Founders membership: every perk, the £11.95 break-even maths, who it suits and who it does not, and how the 100-seat cap and locked price work.
Quick Answer
Founders is the Packrat membership built for people who buy trading cards regularly rather than once in a blue moon. This guide is the definitive, honest explainer: what you get, exactly how the savings work, a worked break-even example (illustrative, not a promise), and a clear statement of who should and should not join. If you buy a booster box or two a month across one or more games, read the break-even section closely. If you buy the odd single pack, we will tell you plainly that it is probably not for you yet.
What Founders Is
PACKRAT Founders is a monthly membership on packratt.co.uk/membership. It costs £11.95 a month, VAT inclusive, with no joining fee and no minimum term. You can cancel any time. The core idea is simple: pay a small monthly fee, and in return get member-only prices on selected sealed product across every trading card game we sell, plus a handful of perks that reward regular buyers.
It is deliberately limited to the first 100 members. That cap is not artificial hype, it keeps the early-access windows and per-drop allowances genuinely meaningful, and it lets us lock the introductory £11.95 rate for those early members for as long as they stay subscribed. When the 100 seats are full, a waitlist opens on the membership page.
Every Perk Explained
Here is everything included, in plain terms and in order of how much value it actually delivers.
| Perk | What it means |
|---|---|
| Member-only pricing | Lower, members-only prices on selected sealed products across Pokémon, MTG, Lorcana, One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Dragon Ball Super, Gundam, LoL (Riftbound) and Star Wars: Unlimited. This is the main saving. |
| Member multi-buy | Additional member-only quantity discounts that stack on top when you buy multiples, so bigger baskets save more per item. |
| Early access | Members-only drop windows open up to 72 hours before the public, so you get first shot at chase and scarce releases. |
| 50 points a month | 50 loyalty points every month (600 a year) on top of the points earned on every order. A modest bonus, roughly 50p to 80p of store credit. |
| Fair-use allowance | Up to 2 items per drop, so scarce product spreads fairly across members rather than being cleared by a few buyers. |
| Founders badge | A Founders badge on your account marking you as an early member. |
Where the value really is
The £11.95 Break-Even Maths
The honest way to judge any membership is break-even: if the member savings you make in a month are more than £11.95, you are ahead. If they are not, you are not. That is the whole test. The good news is that on sealed product the member discount on a single booster box is often enough to cover the entire monthly fee on its own.
Here is a worked example. The figures below are illustrative ranges only, not live prices for any specific product, and your actual savings depend on which items you buy and when. We never quote fixed live prices in a guide because they go stale, so treat this as a typical shape of the maths rather than a quote.
| Illustrative month | Typical member saving | Net position vs £11.95 fee |
|---|---|---|
| One booster box | Often around the fee on its own | Roughly breaks even to slightly ahead |
| Two boxes (different games) | Member pricing on both, plus multi-buy | Comfortably ahead after the fee |
| A box plus an ETB or two | Member pricing across the basket | Clearly ahead after the fee |
| Nothing bought this month | £0 (plus ~50p to 80p in points) | You paid £11.95 for very little |
The pattern is clear. For a regular buyer picking up a box or two a month, member pricing plus multi-buy typically clears the £11.95 fee in a single order and then keeps saving on everything else. For a month where you buy nothing, you are simply paying £11.95 for very little, which is exactly why the membership is not for everyone. See our Cardmarket vs Packrat guide for how UK-domestic pricing already compares before any member discount is applied.
Member vs Non-Member Basket
The same basket, bought as a Founders member and as a non-member. The figures are illustrative to show the shape of the difference, not a live quote for any named product.
| Same basket | Founders member | Non-member |
|---|---|---|
| Sealed booster box | Member price | Standard price |
| Second box (multi-buy) | Member price + multi-buy discount | Standard price |
| Monthly fee | £11.95 (locked for life of subscription) | £0 |
| Early access to the drop | Up to 72 hours before public | Public window only |
| Monthly loyalty points | +50 points (on top of order points) | Order points only |
| Typical net outcome (regular buyer) | Ahead after fee on a box or two | Pays full price every time |
For a non-member the standard Packrat price is still a fair UK-domestic price with VAT included at checkout. Founders simply lowers that price on selected sealed product and gives you first access. You can always browse the current range on the products page or the Pokémon range as a non-member first and decide whether the member pricing adds up for how you buy.
Who It Is (and Is Not) For
Founders is a good fit if
- You already spend roughly £100 or more a month across one or more TCGs
- You regularly buy booster boxes or Elite Trainer Boxes (our best Pokémon booster box guide and cheapest place to buy guide pair well with member pricing)
- You collect across multiple games (Pokémon, MTG, Lorcana, One Piece and others)
- You want early access to chase cards and scarce drops
- You like the certainty of a price locked for the life of your subscription
Founders is not for you if
- You buy the odd single pack or one box every few months
- Your spending is unpredictable and often £0 in a given month
- You only ever want singles, not sealed product
- You would be joining mainly for the monthly points (they are small)
Be honest with yourself first
The 100-Seat Cap & Price Lock
Founders is limited to the first 100 members. This is a real cap, not a countdown gimmick. Keeping the membership small is what makes the early-access windows and the up-to-2-items-per-drop allowance meaningful: scarce product actually reaches members rather than being swamped. Because availability is live and changes constantly, we do not publish a running spots-left number here. Check the membership page for current availability.
When all 100 seats are filled, a waitlist opens on the membership page and new members are admitted as seats free up. A 90-day cool-off applies after someone cancels a Founders subscription, which stops seats churning in and out around big releases and keeps the membership stable for the people actually using it.
The reward for joining early is the price lock. The £11.95 monthly rate is locked in for the life of your subscription, so as long as you stay subscribed it will not rise, even if the public price changes for later members. If you cancel, you give up that locked rate and would rejoin at whatever the rate is then, after the cool-off.

Frequently Asked Questions
Founders is £11.95 per month, VAT inclusive, and you can cancel anytime. Crucially, the £11.95 rate is locked in for the life of your subscription, so as long as you stay subscribed the price will not rise even if the public rate changes later. There is no joining fee and no minimum term.
Founders unlocks member-only pricing on selected sealed products across every game we stock: Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, Disney Lorcana, One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Dragon Ball Super, Gundam, League of Legends (Riftbound) and Star Wars: Unlimited. The member discount on a single booster box is often enough on its own to cover the whole £11.95 monthly fee. If you buy more than one item, member multi-buy discounts stack on top, so the more you buy in a month the further ahead you are.
Alongside member pricing you get members-only early access to drop windows (up to 72 hours before the public), 50 loyalty points every month on top of the points you already earn on every order, a fair-use allowance of up to 2 items per drop so scarce product spreads fairly across members, and a Founders badge on your account. The member pricing is the main saving; the points are a modest bonus.
They are a small extra, not the headline. You get 50 points every month, which is 600 a year, on top of the points earned on every order. Points redeem for store credit and rewards, with 500 points worth £5 and higher tiers giving better value (for example 1800 points is worth £30). Realistically the monthly 50 points is worth roughly 50p to 80p of store credit. Treat it as a bonus on top of the member pricing, which is where the real value sits.
Founders is capped at the first 100 members so the early-access windows and per-drop allowances stay meaningful and scarce product spreads fairly rather than being cleared by a huge membership base. When all 100 seats are taken, a waitlist opens on the membership page. A 90-day cool-off applies after cancelling, so seats do not churn in and out. Because you are an early member, your £11.95 rate is locked for as long as you stay subscribed.
Your Founders benefits follow your account, so when you sign in on the Packrat mobile app you keep member pricing, early access and your points. However, membership itself cannot be purchased inside the app. To join, go to packratt.co.uk/membership on the web and complete Stripe checkout, then sign in on the app to use your benefits.
If you are a casual one-off buyer who picks up a single pack or one box every few months, Founders is unlikely to pay for itself and we would rather you did not subscribe. The membership is built for regular buyers who are already spending roughly £100 or more a month across one or more TCGs. The honest test is simple: if your member savings in a month exceed £11.95, you are ahead; if they do not, you are not the right fit yet.
Yes, you can cancel at any time from your account with no penalty and no minimum term. Your member pricing and benefits stay active until the end of the period you have already paid for. After you cancel there is a 90-day cool-off before you could rejoin, which keeps the 100 seats stable rather than letting people churn in and out around big drops.
